ABOUT • London-based sisters Kathryn and Millie Allsopp combined their shared experience in design and fashion-buying to conceptualise USISI·SISTER – a carefully curated capsule of modern feminine RTW and accessories, offered at an accessible price point. USISI means ‘Sister’ [pronounced oo-see-see] in Xhosa, one of South Africa’s official languages where the sister’s mother grew up.

USISI·SISTER at its core is a brand about sisters, despite a decade separating Kathryn and Millie in age, each season the sisters found themselves buying the same pieces, only in different colours appealing to their different appearances.

This led them to the founding principle of the brand; to offer the same elevated separates from classic tailoring, contemporary eveningwear and statement accessories, but to offer each piece in two colourways – acknowledging how no two shoppers look the same, and in turn representing Kathryn and Millie.

USISI·SISTER launched in June 2019 exclusively with retail partners Browns Fashion and Moda Operandi. The collection is designed in London and produced in fair trade factories around the world, using sustainably sourced all-natural fabrics. In addition to Browns Fashion and Moda Operandi the PF20 collection will also be available from Net-a-Porter & Harvey Nichols.

THE DESIGNERS • At the centre of the brand is sisterhood. Before launching USISI·SISTER, both Kathryn and Millie worked within the fashion industry. Kathryn studied jewellery design at FIT in New York and gained GIA Graduate Gemologist. She started her career at Tito Pedrini before spending six years at American jeweller Alexis Bittar, becoming Head Designer.

Much alike her sister, Millie also chose a career in fashion studying Merchandising & Marketing at Parsons New York. Upon graduating she joined the buying team at Moda Operandi, before relocating to London to join Browns Fashion the iconic British retailer.

Through intuition, combined with over twenty years’ experience within the fashion industry, Kathryn and Millie conceptualized USISI·SISTER. Merging the sisters contrasting business and fashion design skills, they were able to form a holistic foundation on which to launch the brand.
